According to the information provided by the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers' Association, in the first 5 months of 2010 Turkey's flat steel output increased by 50.1% YoY totaling 2.45 million tonnes. Flat steel production constituted 22.23% of total domestic steel output in the given period compared to 16.72% in the corresponding period of 2009.
Meanwhile, during the given period, the country's long steel production improved by 5.4% YoY amounting to 8.56 million tonnes. Long steel production accounted for 77.77% of the country's total steel production during the period in question compared to 83.28% in the corresponding period of 2009.
In the January to May period of this year, Turkey produced 11 million tonnes of steel, 12.9% up YoY. The production performed by electric arc furnace plants increased by 10.9% while steel production using blast furnaces increased by 17.4% both compared to the corresponding period of 2009. In the period in question, 68.14% of production came from mini mills with the remaining 31.86% coming from integrated plants.
