Shanxi Evening News reported that Shanxi provincial authorities first target of local elimination this year for the industries including steel, nonferrous metals and cement have been fixed and shall take effect from May 4.

The relevant department told the paper that the province will weed out 37 blast furnaces that involve 4.06 million tonnes backward iron smelting capacities and one converter which represents 200,000 tonnes steel capacity. Such cities as Linfen, Lvliang, Changzhi, Jincheng, Jinzhong, Xinzhou, Yangquan and Yuncheng will be touched.
