Metalnewsnet 11 May : The government of Bangladesh has taken legal steps against three ship breaking yards for not having clearance from the environment directorate. This is part of an ongoing crackdown by authorities on substandard ship recyclers.
The organizations targeted this time are Rahman Shipyard and Messrs Mahin Enterprise at Maddhyam Shonaichhari and Ambia Ship Breakers at Madambibir Haat of Sitakunda coastal area.
As per report, Mr Saiful Asrab of the directorate filed three separate cases against them with Sitakunda Police Station after submitting complaints to the Divisional Environment Court.
Acting director of the directorate Mr Mostafizur Rahman said that the cases were filed as those organizations were operating without approval. He said that even though they were asked to get the clearance, these organizations did not do so.
Earlier on April 21 the authorities filed four more similar cases.
