Hebei Province based Wuyang Steel Group, a subsidiary of Chinese steel giant Hebei Steel Group has announced that it has succeeded in rolling 45 tonnes ingots on its 4,200 mm rolling mill, exceeding the designed rolling capacity.

The 45 tonnes ingot is the largest ingot produced in China at present, and can be used to produce flats with thicknesses of 600mm to 750 mm. The 4,200 mm rolling mill was put into production in 1986. In October last year, Wuyang Steel started to roll 29 tonnes, 31 tonnes, 35 tonnes and 40 tonnes ingots. In order to satisfy demand from inside and outside China, in January this year Wuyang Steel commenced efforts to roll 45 tonnes ingots.

The company states that by mid April it succeeded in rolling a total of 78 ingots of 45 tonnes each weighing more than 2,600 tonnes in total.
