Metalnewsnet 29 Jun : Japan's copper cable shipments in May likely fell 12% from April, according to preliminary data from the Japanese Electric Wire and Cable Makers' Association Monday. The association estimated shipments were 49,700 metric tons, 11% higher than a year ago. Confirmed shipments of 56,200 tons in April were up 7% on year. The preliminary May data indicate copper cable shipments to the construction industry were 18,500 tons, down 16% from April and down 3% from a year earlier. The association projected shipments to the automobile sector at 5,300 tons, down 14% from April but up 24% on year. Official May results and preliminary June data will be released in late July.
