China's aluminum product output is expected to reach 18.98 million tons in 2010, up 15 percent year-on year, a senior official with China Nonferrous Metals Fabrication Industry Association (CNFA) told Interfax on April 22.

"We will also increase the output of aluminum plate, strip and foil in the future. We have found that consumption of these materials in the majority of developed countries is always much higher than that of aluminum extrusion. I predict that by 2015, China's plate, strip and foil output will be 1.2 times higher than that of extrusion," Song Yutian, the director of CNFA, said at an April 21 conference in Beijing.

"In 2009, China produced 16.5 million tons of aluminum products, of which around 6.7 million tons were aluminum plate, strip and foil. As we speak, however, there are millions of tons of plate, strip and foil production facilities under construction. Things are changing every year," Song told Interfax.

Meanwhile, Song also anticipated that three to seven large-sized aluminum producers will be formed in China by the end of 2015. High value-added aluminum products are expected to account for approximately 60 percent of the total aluminum products in the same period.
