Metalnewsnet 18 May : It is reported that Angang Group energy consumption per tonne of steel declined by 136 kilogram coal equivalent during 2006 to 2009 period avoiding 2.68 million tonnes of coal equivalent.
The energy cut target of 2 million tonnes coal equivalent was over hit one year ahead of schedule. In addition, Angang fulfilled the SO2 and COD emission reduction cut targets assigned by the State owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council one year ahead of timetable.
Angang has eliminated since 2006 seven 1,000 cbm blast furnaces, nine outdated coke ovens, 12 sets of 90 square meter sintering machines and thermal sintering techniques. One sintering machine and seven coal fired boilers were equipped with desulfurization facilities. Moreover, Angang built 300MW and 150MW IGCC generators, whose energy efficiency are 15% higher than that of average ones. The IGCC generators can avoid 124,000 tonnes of coal equivalent annually.
Angang will this year launch over 50 key projects bearing on energy conservation and emissions reduction including byproduct heat based power, coal wetting of coke ovens, green illumination, solar and wind power. The steel mill plans to build an offshore wind farm near Bayuquan new area of Dalian.
